Children in this age group seldom have an understanding of death, however they can still experience feelings of grief and loss. A few ways to help a grieving toddler are to:
- keep normal routines going as much as possible
- make as much physical contact with them as possible (holding, cuddling, etc.)
- children pick up on your non-verbal cues, so be calm around them. Do not act panicked
- provide items that make them feel comfortable, such as their special blanket or stuffed animal
